No timeframe, but I would bet within the next 1-2 years if not sooner. So, anyone who currently has a box at Chase, whether it's free, paid, or whatever, I would advise you to go in and close it now before you get caught offguard and end up having to go in and take out valuable documents or other items, or hassle with key return.

I told him that I would keep the box for now (because it's free with my particular type of account), but would NOT be putting anything into it, because why bother if it's going to 'go away' as per his remarks. So, that's straight from the horse's mouth as to the future of these types of boxes. At first he didn't want to confirm or deny this rumor but eventually he admitted that if I kept my box, I should be prepared with '95% certainty' that the box would go away as part of their services. They say no, I have to close the box personally in CT. I call Chase, ask them to close the safe deposit box, and ask where I should mail the keys.
